237 passengers on board. A cruise ship caught fire off the coast of Greece

A fire broke out on the Euroferry Olympia cruise ship in the Ionian Sea near the Greek island of Ericus.

According to available information, there are 237 passengers and 51 crew members on board the ship.

The Greek publication Skai.gr reported on the ferry incident.

From the details of the incident, it is known that the fire broke out when the liner was near the island of Ericusa.

The ship sailed under the Italian flag. The route ran from the Greek Igoumenitsa to the Italian Brindisi.

The fire is believed to have originated on the third floor deck, according to the Coast Guard.

The ship’s captain requested evacuation.

It is not reported whether any of the people on board the ship were injured. Local authorities say that all citizens are feeling well.

Rescuers arrived at the scene of the incident on three boats, and tugboats and watercraft were also sent there.

It is noted that passengers of the cruise ship are evacuated to the island of Corfu.

As for the vessel, it belongs to the shipping company Grimaldi Lines. The length of the ship is 183 meters, width is 28.7 meters.

The ship has 73 cabins. It can simultaneously carry up to 560 passengers.
