At the site of the An-26 passenger plane crash in Kamchatka, rescuers found the bodies of nine dead citizens.

They were found during search operations. In total, there were 22 passengers on the plane, including a child, and six crew members.

To identify the dead, a genetic examination may be required, TASS agency citing a source in the emergency services.

What is known so far

Rescuers and volunteers suspended search work due to high tide and darkness. They will continue tomorrow.

Search work will be carried out until high tide begins at 18:00 (09:00 Belarusian time – Ed.). The bodies will be transported to Palana; everything for identification is here. The arrival of forensic experts is expected, the administration of the village of Palana, near which the plane crashed, reported.

According to the government of the Kamchatka Territory, two helicopters are being used to search for the wreckage of the aircraft and the dead, and the arrival of diving service specialists is expected.

Investigations of the wreckage are also being carried out to determine the nature of the damage to the aircraft.

Rescuers, volunteers, and a small boat are participating in the search.

Commission

It is known that Russian Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev (heads the government commission to investigate the incident) and the head of the Federal Air Transport Agency Alexander Neradko flew to the scene of the tragedy.

Let us remind you that the disaster occurred on July 6 – contact with the An-26 crew was lost, and some time later the wreckage of the aircraft was found near the village of Palana.

The aircraft that took off from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky was heading to this settlement.

According to preliminary data, all 28 people on board were killed. But this information has not yet been officially confirmed.
