On Saturday evening, many residents of Portugal witnessed a celestial phenomenon: a bright, huge meteor appeared above their heads.
Not to be confused with a meteorite, a solid cosmic body. A meteor is a streak of light that a space object leaves in the night sky as it burns up in the atmosphere.
According to MIA Rossiya Segodnya, citing the newspaper Publico, it was the meteor that was seen by residents of Portugal, all over the country.
Eyewitnesses speak of a flash of a “glowing ball.” The publication identified the phenomenon as a meteor “crossing the atmosphere.”
Numerous videos depicting this phenomenon appeared on the Internet and spread like a meteorite.
And the Portuguese media noticed that most of these recordings were made in the northern regions of the country.
It is curious that the Civil Defense website initially published a message about a “meteorite fall” near the municipality of Castro Dairi.
However, a little later this information was deleted.
In turn, Publico correspondents contacted the firefighters, but they were unable to provide them with information about the incident.
