A law restricting the rights of illegal migrants has been signed in Lithuania.

3views

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda signed amendments to the law regarding the legal status of foreign citizens.

These adjustments limit the rights of illegal migrants.

In particular, the changes deprive those who seek asylum in Lithuania of the right to appeal the decisions of the court of first instance, Belta.

Another innovation is that the country has reduced the processing time for asylum applications.

The latter is due to the fact that an emergency situation was declared in the republic due to the continued growth of illegal immigrants.

Human rights activists note that the adjustments are essentially legalized violations of human rights.

According to some lawyers, the amendments are unconstitutional because migrants were not provided with the right to appeal if they were denied asylum.
