Trouble has befallen the Turkish resort province of Antalya, which is very popular among Belarusians.

The region was hit by heavy rains, causing severe flooding, leaving several areas and important transport links under water.

According to TASS, citing data from the mayor’s office of the regional capital, the amount of precipitation that fell over the past night was 300 mm per square meter.

It was unprecedented rain. Up to 300 mm fell per 1 sq. m. It started the night before and then intensified during the night, – said mayor Muhittin Bojek.

He added: 1,450 city service employees and 290 vehicles took part in eliminating the consequences of the disaster.

People were evacuated from more than 900 cars blocked by flooding.

Also in Antalya (the city has the same name as the entire province), citizens are being evacuated from residential buildings.

The wind speed during the downpour reached 45 km/h, and high waves rose in the sea.

In the morning, some underground passages and road tunnels in the city were flooded with cars blocked.

In addition, the first floors of individual buildings went under water. The local airport was closed at night.

City authorities have banned motorcycle couriers from entering the roads until the situation normalizes.

Schools were canceled in five districts of Antalya, and women civil servants with children were given a day off.

Earlier, a plane landed in Antalya: screams were heard in the luggage compartment.
