Employees of the American Museum of Natural History in New York have described a new species of ancient relatives of the vampire octopus from discovered fossil remains.
The age of the find dates back to 328 million years. Traces of the “monster”’s habitat were discovered in Montana, and it was named Syllipsimopodi bideni.
The 12 cm long creature became the oldest representative of cephalopods to live on Earth, and was named in honor of US President Biden, reports.
It is noteworthy that the ten limbs of the creature had suction cups during life, and the creature itself is the oldest known representative of vampires.
This group includes vampire squids and octopuses.
