A rally against the Olympics takes place in Tokyo

17views

On the day of the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, a protest against the competition began.

The crowd, numbering about 100 people, is rallying near the mayor’s office of the capital’s prefecture, near the end of the Olympic torch relay.

Protesters were not allowed directly into the square where the marathon would end.

The protesters were cordoned off by local police. According to media reports, those gathered were shouting demands to cancel the Olympics.

According to social surveys that took place shortly before the start of the Games, no more than 20% of survey participants in the country approve of holding the competition.

The thing is that the Japanese capital is experiencing a surge in the incidence of COVID-19, and the Olympics itself is being held in emergency mode.

The protesters are confident that the Games should be cancelled, because after their completion the situation could worsen.

According to medical statistics, the incidence rate has been steadily increasing over the past two days.

The daily increase is almost 2 thousand, which is a record figure since January 2021.

Protesters claim that more than one protest will take place today. The next rally should take place near the main Olympic site.

Let us remind you that the Olympics will be held without fans, and about 950 officials will be present at the opening ceremony.
