A referendum on the annexation of South Ossetia to Russia is scheduled for July 17

40views

A referendum on the annexation of the territory of South Ossetia to Russia is scheduled for July 17, 2022.

This decision was made by the head of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov, which does not contradict the country’s constitution and corresponds to paragraph 16 of Article 50 of the Basic Law. The decision has already been called fateful.

We are going home, we are going to Russia,” MIA quotes Anatoly Bibilov as saying.

At the upcoming referendum, citizens of the republic will have to answer one question: “Do you support the unification of the Republic of South Ossetia and Russia?”

The unification is due not only to the partnership and friendly relations between the two states, but to their common history.

Anatoly Bibilov calls the relationship trusting and brotherly.

Let us recall that the Kremlin recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia back in August 2008.

At the same time, Russia made a decision to protect South Ossetia from Georgian armed forces and attempts to return the republic to the control of Tbilisi.
