A resident of Dobrush was saved from being deceived by cyber fraudsters by a preventive leaflet

A resident of Dobrush almost gave 8,000 rubles to cyber fraudsters.

A preventive leaflet saved a woman from being deceived by scammers.

This was reported by the Department of Internal Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

How the scammers acted

A resident of Dobrush received a call from a girl who introduced herself as a bank employee, said that someone wanted to take out a loan in the woman’s name, and asked for assistance in catching the criminals.

The woman agreed. A few minutes later, the “investigator” called her back and said that she needed to go to a bank in Gomel, apply for a loan for 8,000 rubles and transfer the funds to the specified account.

At the bank, before applying for a loan, the woman was given a brochure to read about the methods of telephone scammers.

After reviewing the information, she continued the registration procedure. There was nothing left before receiving the loan: you had to wait 15-20 minutes for approval from the security service.

At that moment, the woman doubted, called the “investigator,” reported her suspicions and said that she wanted to go to the police to verify his identity.

The scammer realized that the victim was off the hook and tried to dissuade her, citing the “secrecy” of the operation.

The woman doubted even more and went to the police. The police took her to the bank and canceled her loan application.
