A serious conflict broke out between France and Germany. Politico named the reasons

Recently it became known that a serious conflict has broken out between France and Germany.

This was reported by the Politico newspaper, noting that the reasons for the disagreement were the topics of nuclear energy and the ban on cars with internal combustion engines.

The publication informs: on March 23 and 24, meetings of the leaders of the European Union countries will take place in Brussels.

At these events it is expected to consider issues of economic competitiveness of the European Union and support for Ukraine.

German actions

The conflict that has broken out between Berlin and Paris threatens to disrupt the course of the two-day meeting, – excerpts from the Politico material of the Rossiya Segodnya news agency.

Earlier, Germany, with a few supporters, including Italy, blocked the European Union’s decision to ban the sale of cars with internal combustion engines by 2035.

Such actions, the newspaper writes, provoked a scandal.

It goes on to explain: Germany wants to eliminate synthetic alternatives to fossil fuels for the benefit of its own automakers.

But the European Parliament twice rejected Berlin’s corresponding appeal.

Paris’s answer

France has even harshly criticized Germany because it seeks to include nuclear energy in the EU list of “clean” technologies.

In turn, this desire of Paris caused a flurry of furious reviews from Berlin, the publication reports.

And the French were “particularly angered” by the pressure of the Scholz government, in which the “greens” are represented, on the EC, which reduced the importance of nuclear energy in the issue of decarbonization of the EU.

The newspaper also knows that at the beginning of this week, the head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, sent a letter to the EU Council.

In it, she protested against Berlin’s attempts to change EU-agreed road transport legislation at the last minute.
