A shopping center burns in China, killing at least 16 people

A major fire broke out in the Chinese city of Zigong, located in Sichuan province in the southwest of the country.

The shopping center was on fire. Unfortunately, there were some casualties. According to local media, at least 16 citizens are currently known to have died.

Early today, July 18, rescue work was completed, TASS citing the Xinhua agency.

From the details of the incident, it is known that the flames blazed in a 14-story building, which is located in the city’s high-tech zone.

The fire was reported at about six o’clock in the evening on July 17 (about one o’clock in the afternoon Belarusian time).

At that moment there were 75 people in the building, most of them were able to evacuate.

According to data obtained during the preliminary investigation of the incident, the cause of the fire could have been violations committed during construction work.

Earlier, the press reported that eight people died as a result of a fire in a shopping center.
