On June 24, a destructive tornado swept through the southeast of the Czech Republic. The disaster destroyed several settlements near the republic’s borders with Austria and Slovakia.

In addition to the destruction, hundreds of casualties are reported. According to preliminary information, the disaster claimed the lives of 5 people.

Initially, local media, citing information from emergency service doctors, reported about 150 victims who received injuries of varying severity.

Later it became known that the number of victims had increased to 300 people.

Doctors have already provided the necessary assistance to 200 local residents, including children.

It is possible that information about victims and victims will change during the liquidation of the consequences.

In addition to the destroyed villages and the affected population, almost 32 thousand families were left without electricity.

It is also reported that, along with the destructive wind, hail also hit the outskirts of the towns of Břeclav and Hodonin in the South Moravian Region.

The media write that in some places the size of the hailstones was no smaller than a tennis ball.

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis called the incident a huge tragedy for the country, but due to bad weather he cannot return to the republic yet.
