A woman died after being infected with two variants of coronavirus

3views

A Belgian woman died after becoming infected with two variants of the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen.

It is noted that the patient was infected with “alpha” and “beta” strains of coronavirus.

The deceased was 90 years old, foreign media reported.

The woman was admitted to the hospital back in March. Then she was diagnosed with coronavirus infection.

At first, the patient’s health was assessed as satisfactory.

However, later the elderly Belgian woman began to feel worse. Despite a fairly high level of oxygen in the blood, the woman died.

Later it turned out that two types of the COVID-19 pathogen penetrated her body at once.

We are talking about the alpha strain discovered in the UK and the beta strain identified in South Africa.

At the moment, experts are studying an unusual case.

So far, scientists are finding it difficult to say whether the cause of death was infection with two variants of coronavirus at once.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic in March 2020. More than 4 million people worldwide have died from coronavirus infection.

Currently, several significant strains of coronavirus are known. Pathogens are more contagious when compared with the main “version” of SARS-CoV-2.
