310views

A 17-year-old girl is in the hospital after a fall at Canada’s Wonderland on Thursday afternoon. York paramedics said they responded to a call at the amusement park at 2:39 p.m. A spokesperson for the Vaughan amusement park confirmed that Swing of the Century ride operators reported the injury shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Incident Investigation Underway

“An incident investigation is underway,” the spokesperson said in an email to the Star. “The safety of our guests and associates is our top priority.”

Police, paramedics, and Canada’s Wonderland would not confirm if she fell from a ride. Paramedics said the teenager fell 30 to 40 feet; however, they did not clarify the severity of the injury.

Circumstances of the Fall

The circumstances of her fall remain unknown, but police told the Star that it was a medical call and officers would not be investigating the incident because “nothing criminal” was involved.

History of the Swing of the Century Ride

Swing of the Century, previously known as Swing of the Siam, was one of the original 26 rides when the park opened in 1981, according to Canada’s Wonderland. The ride holds up to 48 riders in individual free-hanging seats that are raised and lowered from a slanted and rotating tower.

This incident underscores the importance of safety measures and ongoing vigilance at amusement parks to ensure the well-being of all visitors.
