Amrullah Saleh, who held the position of Vice President of Afghanistan during the presidency of Ashraf Ghani, declared himself the acting head of state and called for resistance to the radical Taliban movement that had seized power.

The former vice president said he would never submit to the Taliban.

Saleh published a corresponding statement on August 17 on his Twitter.

Saleh recalled that in accordance with the Constitution, in the event of the flight or death of the head of state, the first vice president becomes acting.

I am in Afghanistan and legally performing these duties, – he said.

The former vice president appealed to the leaders of all countries of the world for support, called for joining the resistance to the Taliban and emphasized that he would not submit to the Taliban under any circumstances.

Change of power in Afghanistan

Let us remind you that after the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, the Taliban launched a large-scale offensive and last Sunday, August 15, captured the capital of the country, Kabul, declaring themselves in power.

President Ashraf Ghani resigned and left the country to avoid bloodshed.

After the change of power, Western countries began evacuating their diplomatic missions and citizens, Afghan officials and military personnel are fleeing the country en masse.

Today it became known that the Taliban announced an amnesty for all former officials and suspended all flights from the capital’s airport.
