Katalin Nowak announced that she is leaving the post of President of Hungary.

On Saturday, February 10, the statesman made his last address to Hungarian citizens as head of state.

Novak announced her resignation after a scandal related to the pardon of a man who took part in covering up crimes.

The politician admitted that she was wrong and decided not to waive responsibility for the erroneous decision.

Details of the scandal

In the spring of 2023, Novak pardoned a man who previously held the position of deputy head of an orphanage.

We are talking about a Hungarian citizen who hid the crimes of the director of an educational institution accused of pedophilia.

Novak came to the conclusion that the deputy head of the orphanage did not demonstrate abuse of the dependent position of minors, so she pardoned him.

However, later the politician admitted her mistake, apologized and stated that she could not continue to hold the post of head of the Hungarian state in the current situation.

The politician has been the President of Hungary since the spring of 2022.

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that because of his position on Ukraine.
