Airbnb pays tourist $7 million due to rape in rented apartment

3views

Airbnb, an online service for searching private rentals, paid a tourist from Australia seven million dollars after a rape incident.

As foreign Internet sites write, a traveler from Australia, whose gender is not specified, rented an apartment in New York with friends.

A tourist who had previously rented this apartment made a duplicate key, and on Christmas Day he hid in the bathroom and attacked the new tenant when he opened the door.

Upon learning of the rape, the company paid the tourist $7 million in compensation and helped him return home to Australia.

The rapist was charged with rape, but he did not admit his guilt.

After this incident, the service changed the rules governing the transfer of keys to rental housing. The service also encouraged tenants to talk about similar cases.
