American Paul Alexander, who lived for more than 70 years in an iron lung ventilator, died in Texas.

According to the CBS television channel, the man, known throughout the world, was 78 years old.

What caused the death is not said. But it is noted that not long ago Paul was treated in a hospital for coronavirus.

He was discharged from the hospital several weeks before his death, TASS agency.

At the age of six, Alexander suffered a severe form of polio, which affects the human nervous system.

Due to complications, he was paralyzed from the neck down – he could no longer breathe on his own.

Therefore, he was placed in an “iron lung” – an artificial respiration apparatus, which is a metal capsule with a motor that pumps air in and out under pressure.

All this happened to Paul at a young age. He was then able to do without the iron lung for several hours.

As soon as the child learned to breathe in such a way that it was possible to stay outside the bulky apparatus for a certain time, the therapist gave the boy a puppy.

And under such conditions, this man received a higher education (Law Faculty of the University of Texas), became a lawyer and defended clients, including directly in courtrooms.

And in 2020, he wrote the book “Three minutes for the dog: my life in the iron lung.”

While working on the manuscript, Alexander used a special stick designed by his father with a handle on the end – he held it in his mouth while taking notes or typing on the keyboard.

Earlier, the fire festival in Iran ended with 26 people.
