On October 15, our planet will approach a huge asteroid, the dimensions of which exceed the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Cairo.
According to experts, on this day the distance between the Earth and the space object will be reduced to 5 million kilometers. The diameter of the asteroid is 160 m.
The impressive dimensions of the space hulk make it possible to compare it with the tallest pyramid on Earth – the Great Pyramid of Giza.
It is the largest of the Egyptian pyramids, and the first and only of the Seven Wonders of the World still standing.
The asteroid comparable to the architectural monument is listed as 2021 SM3, and was discovered only this year.
Its dimensions in diameter reach 160 meters, which is 20% greater than the parameters of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Cairo.
It is known that 2021 SM3 belongs to the Apollo group. The orbits of these objects are wider than the Earth’s, and the intersection occurs at the moment the Earth rotates around the Sun.
On October 15, the asteroid will rush past Earth at a distance of about 5 million km.
The flight speed is 16 km per second.
Following it, two more asteroids headed towards our planet, but with a larger diameter – from 200 to 230 meters.
The first of them will approach the Earth on October 20, and the second on October 25.
