An emergency situation on board the Russian Luna-25 station prevented the transition to the pre-landing orbit, MIA reports citing a statement from Roscosmos.
Today, in accordance with the Luna-25 flight program, at 14:10 an impulse was issued to transfer the station to the pre-landing orbit. During the operation, an emergency situation occurred on board the automatic station, which did not allow the maneuver to be performed with the specified parameters, the statement said.
What caused it and how what happened may affect the future of the mission is not reported.
Representatives of the state corporation from the management group are analyzing the situation.
Let us recall that according to the research program, the Russian automatic station “Luna-25” was supposed to begin studying the surface of the Moon’s soil in the area of the South Pole.
According to the plan, the “lunar landing” was scheduled for August 21.
The main goal of the Russian lunar research program is to search for ice in the soil of the Earth’s satellite.
