An entire cemetery of mammoths, about 200 thousand years old, has been discovered in the southwest of Great Britain.

So far, the remains of five animals have been identified – two adults, two younger individuals and one more baby. They all died during the last ice age.

Details of the find were published by the publication.

Along with the remains of ancient animals, a stone axe, flint tools and other products for cleaning skins were discovered.

It is not yet known whether the animals died at the hands of humans or died of natural causes.

Until now, it has not been possible to find such a well-preserved burial, especially together with Neanderthal stone tools.

It is known that the find was discovered by chance by two archeology lovers, after which experts joined in studying the area.

This is how artifacts dating back to the Ice Age were discovered: the remains of beetles, freshwater shells.

As for the remains of mammoths, tusks, leg bones, as well as ribs and fragments of the spine were discovered.

The burial was formed in the period 220-210 thousand years ago.

Scientists plan to find out what caused the death of the mammoths.

It is possible that the find will help make new discoveries about the life of ancient people in Great Britain.
