Lula embarks for the UN this Saturday (21) in a very different environment than a year ago. In 2023 – on this same trip – he was received by the world as a
kind of savior of Brazil and a global hope. That has changed.
The unrest began with the controversial positions on the war in Ukraine, Israel and more recently the election in Venezuela. And now they have moved on to the environmental area.
Lula 3 – it is a fact – reduced deforestation in the Amazon. A great feat. But the problem is that it stopped there.
The environmental agenda – and more than that, the climate agenda – did not become the government’s main agenda.
On the contrary, Brazil has been burning in flames for weeks, exposing inaction and incompetence.
Lula said at his inauguration in January 2023 that the world expects Brazil to once again be a leader in the fight against the climate crisis.
Lula will see next week that the world continues to wait.
