Angela Merkel’s party lost elections in Germany

0views

On Sunday, September 26, parliamentary elections took place in Germany.

Citizens of Germany decided which parties should enter the Bundestag.

Preliminary voting results on the official website of the German Federal Election Commission.

According to published data, the party of the current Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU/CSU bloc) lost the elections.

24.1 percent of voters who came to the polling stations yesterday voted for this political force.

But the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) won 25.7 percent of the votes in the elections.

This means that the SPD should receive 206 seats in the German parliament, and the CDU/CSU bloc – 196 seats.

However, the future composition of the Bundestag will be quite “variegated”. Several more parties must form their own factions.

We are talking about the political forces of Union 90 / Greens (118 seats), the Free Democratic Party (92 seats), the Alternative for Germany party (83 seats) and the Left (39 seats).

Thus, the SPD has so far won only a formal victory. Ahead, political forces must negotiate the formation of a government. At the moment, it is unknown which parties will be included in the coalition.
