Another attack in Sydney: a bishop was stabbed while preaching

On April 15, Bishop Mar Marie Emmanuel was attacked with a knife at the Church of Christ the Good Shepherd in Sydney.

The injuries received by the bishop and the parishioners who defended him are not life-threatening. The attacker has been arrested.

What is known about the attack on the bishop in Sydney

During the sermon, a man with a knife attacked the bishop and inflicted several wounds on him in the head.

Parishioners rushed to defend the bishop, and several people were injured.

According to preliminary information, all victims are men aged 20-70 years. The injuries received by the victims are not life-threatening.

The attacker has been arrested. There is no information yet about the motive for the attack. Police urged citizens not to visit the area where the attack took place.

According to the British edition of the Daily Mail, after the attack there were riots near the church, with hundreds of people throwing bricks and bottles at the barrier erected by the police, shouting “get him out” and “an eye for an eye.”

Protesters also smashed the window of a police car with a stone. The police used tear gas.

A few days before the attack on the bishop, a shopping center was attacked in Sydney. As a result of the attack, 6 people were killed and 12 were injured.

The attacker, 40-year-old Joel Koshy, was shot and killed by police. According to the police, the attacker deliberately attacked women.

Bishop Mar Marie Emmanuel rose to prominence during the coronavirus pandemic when he described Sydney’s lockdown as mass slavery. Church of Christ the Good Shepherd has nearly 200,000 subscribers on YouTube.
