The arrival of international tourists to Brazil grew 10.7% between January and August this year, compared to the same period last year. The country received 431,700 more foreign visitors than in the first eight months of 2023.

Data from the Ministry of Tourism, in partnership with Embratur (Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion) and the Federal Police, were released this Friday (20).

However, the outlook is that the annual record for international tourists in Brazil may not be broken this year. So far, in 2024, 4.4 million of these. The record was in 2018, when around 6.6 million came.

The assessment of Embratur’s director of international marketing, business and sustainability, Bruno Reis, is that the level in 2024 should be at 6.4 million to 6.6 million international visitors. Last year, there were around 5.9 million.

In the first eight months of this year, Argentina sent the most tourists here (1.374 million). Next are the United States (461.3 thousand) and Chile (399.5 thousand).

São Paulo was the gateway for 1.2 million international tourists. Then, Rio de Janeiro (868.3 thousand) and Rio Grande do Sul (647.7 thousand). Nearly 2.9 million arrived by air, while approximately 1.4 million arrived by land.
