Arson may have been the cause of forest fires in Turkey: first suspect detained

Turkish authorities do not rule out that forest fires broke out in the country due to arson.

According to one version, what is happening may be sabotage by political forces banned in Turkey.

The country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke about the detention of the first person who is suspected of deliberately contributing to the spread of fire in forest areas.

The Turkish leader made a corresponding statement during a press conference in Marmaris, local media reported.

Erdogan added that it is the responsibility of the authorities and law enforcement officers to detect and detain people who set fire to forests.

Situation in Turkey

Forest fires broke out in the Republic of Turkey on Wednesday, July 28.

The fire began to spread in forests near the city of Manavgat in the south of the country.

The next day, a dangerous situation was already recorded in several regions of Turkey: Antalya, Aydin and Muğlu.

At the moment, firefighters have managed to localize most of the fires (88 out of 98). 6 deaths reported.

Initially, the cause of the incident was said to be intense heat and squally winds, due to which the fire could spread quickly.
