At an accelerated pace. Turkey’s parliament may approve Sweden’s entry into NATO as early as July

Recently it became known that the Turkish Grand National Assembly (parliament) may quickly consider Sweden’s application to join NATO.

If earlier the Turkish media wrote that this is possible only after the deputies’ vacation, which they go on this week and return in the fall (the session will take place on October 1), now the deadlines have “shifted.”

According to CNN Türk, parliament may ratify the application by the end of next July week.

Initially, the document had to be adopted by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the parliament, after which it would go to the General Assembly of the legislative body, – TASS.

After the application is approved and subsequently published in the government publication Resmi Gazete with the signature of the President of Turkey, the process of approval of Sweden’s accession to NATO by Ankara will be completed.

On Monday, July 10, Erdogan said that for the “go-ahead” for Stockholm to join the North Atlantic Alliance, he would like Turkey to be admitted to the European Union.

Later, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the Turkish leader agreed to transfer the protocol on Sweden’s admission to the Alliance to his country’s parliament as quickly as possible.
