At least 550 pilgrims died during the Hajj in Saudi Arabia. The reason for this is the heat.

In particular, diplomats shared such information with Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The total number of deaths in the morgue of Mecca’s Al-Muaysema district was 550 people. – one of the interlocutors of the MIA Rossiya Segodnya agency.

Jordan, Tunisia, Egypt

Before this, Western media reported the death of 76 pilgrims – 41 from Jordan and 35 from Tunisia.

At least 323 of the dead were Egyptian citizens, two Arab diplomats said.

One AFP source noted that almost all Egyptians died due to illnesses caused by the heat.

And only one of them died as a result of injuries received during a small stampede.

According to AFP interlocutors, the number of dead Jordanian citizens has already reached 60 people.

This brings the total number of deaths reported in several countries to 577 at the moment.

Without food and water

One diplomat said the number of Egyptian deaths had risen due to the large number of unregistered pilgrims.

Unregistered pilgrims have caused great chaos in Egyptian pilgrimage camps, leading to a collapse in services, said the curator of the Hajj mission in Egypt.

According to him, people were left without food, water and air conditioning for a long time.

Let us add that on June 17, the air temperature in Mecca was recorded at 45 degrees Celsius.

And in the largest mosque in the city, local meteorologists recorded an indicator of +52 degrees.

According to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health, 2,764 pilgrims suffered from heatstroke on June 16 alone.

Earlier in the Czech Republic, it occurred at a training ground, 9 people were injured.
