What Schallenberg said about the Ukraine negotiations
The head of Austrian diplomacy said that peace in Ukraine can only be achieved at the negotiating table.
But we haven’t gotten to that point yet, the minister added.
Schallenberg noted that any efforts aimed at dialogue should be viewed positively, highlighting the negotiations in Turkey and Belarus.
The Austrian Foreign Minister stressed that there can be no negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine.
Any negotiation requires two parties, until they reach this point – he said, noting that there is a lack of trust in the region.
When asked whether Austria, as a neutral country, is ready to provide a platform for negotiations on Ukraine, the minister did not answer.
Earlier, a TASS diplomatic source reported that Turkey is ready to organize negotiations if Ukraine and Russia show the appropriate political will.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi in early September, said that Ankara will continue to play the role of a mediator, including on the issue of prisoner exchange.
