US President Joseph Biden is disappointed by the possible absence of President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping at the upcoming G20 summit in India.

Reuters reports this.

How Biden responded to Xi Jinping’s possible absence from the G20

On August 31, the agency reported that the Chinese leader was likely to miss the G20 summit, which will be held in New Delhi, India on September 9-10, and that China would be represented at the event by the head of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Li Qiang.

The agency did not provide reasons for Xi Jinping’s possible absence from the G20.

The official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Wenbin, said on September 1 that he could not yet clarify the plans of the head of the PRC regarding participation in the G20 summit.

I’m disappointed. But I’m going to meet him – Biden said, commenting on the possible absence of the Chinese leader at the summit.

Earlier, the US President expressed hope that the head of China will go to the summit.

John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, previously said that the American leader would definitely like to meet with his Chinese counterpart on the sidelines of the G20.

Kirby noted that the White House understands that the decision to participate in the event rests with Xi Jinping himself.

India has held the G20 presidency since December 1 last year. The summit in New Delhi will be held in person on September 9-10.

The leaders of all G20 countries and 9 other states are invited to the event – Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Spain, Singapore, Mauritius, Oman, Nigeria and the Netherlands.
