The US President has extended the state of emergency for Belarus for another year. This measure is used as a basis for imposing sanctions.

According to media reports, Joe Biden made this decision because he saw a threat to US national security and Washington’s foreign policy.

Joe Biden has extended the state of emergency against Belarus for a period of one year, MIA reports.

I am extending the national emergency declared by Executive Order 13405 for one year,” Biden said in a statement.

This measure was introduced by the White House administration in connection with the internal political crisis in the republic.

The emergency regime allows Washington to continue to apply sanctions against Belarus and the authorities.

Let us recall that the corresponding regime was introduced by US decree number 13405 on June 16, 2006.

A few years later, another legal act followed (No. 14308 dated August 9, 2021), expanding the powers of the first document.

Then Washington accused Minsk of falsifying election results and persecuting the opposition.

This time, Biden decided that the situation in Belarus poses “an unusual and exceptional threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.”
