However, there is a condition. The meeting is possible only if there is no “Russian invasion of Ukraine.”
The TASS agency reported this with reference to a statement by White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
As the President has made clear on numerous occasions, we are committed to diplomatic engagement until an invasion begins.– says the corresponding statement.
It also notes that American Secretary of State Antony Blinken is scheduled to meet in Europe this week with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
But again it is emphasized: the event is possible if the Kremlin does not take military action.
President Biden has agreed in principle to a meeting with President Putin after these contacts, again if there is no invasion. “We are always ready for diplomacy,” Ms. Psaki noted.
Earlier, the press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, called information about Moscow’s alleged invasion of Ukraine a groundless escalation of tension.
