The grandfather of German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock Waldemar Bärbock was a Wehrmacht officer and a convinced Nazi.

The German publication Bild reports this, citing historical documents.

What is known about grandfather Berbock

According to , Berbock’s grandfather, whom she often talks about at memorial events, was not just a Wehrmacht officer, but also an ardent Nazi.

According to the publication, during World War II Waldemar Berbock was an air defense engineer.

Documents show that he read Adolf Hitler’s book “My Struggle” (included in the Russian federal list of extremist materials) and fully supported the regime. In 1944 he received Hitler’s Cross of Military Merit with swords.

The head of the German Foreign Ministry mentioned that her grandfather served in the Wehrmacht, but did not say anything about his beliefs.

Bild wonders whether Bärbock knew that her grandfather was not only an officer, but also possibly a convinced Nazi at heart.

The German Foreign Ministry responded to the publication’s request that the minister is not familiar with archival documents about her grandfather.

At the same time, Bild notes, there is a note about unconditional faith in National Socialism in almost every dossier of those who served in the Wehrmacht.

Earlier, Finland will leave the border with Russia closed until mid-April.
