In India, the number of patients affected by a severe fungal disease, better known as black mold, continues to rise.

It is known that the Indian authorities are most concerned about the situation with “black mold” in the state of Gujarat.

Amid the worsening situation, the authorities have prepared and are distributing 23,680 doses of the antifungal agent Amphotericin-B among the regions.

The distribution was made on the basis of the total number of patients, which is 8,848 across the country, Indian Chemical Industry Minister Sadanand Gowda was quoted as saying by MIA.

According to the head of the department, the Indian state of Gujarat has suffered the most, where to date mucormycosis has been confirmed in 2,281 patients.

The affected regions also include the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Mucormycosis is caused by a fungal infection. Infection occurs through contact with a carrier of the fungus.

Spores can be found in the environment and can enter the body through cuts, burns and other damage to the skin.

At risk are patients with diabetes and people with weakened immune systems, including those with coronavirus.
