The US is considering using its nuclear weapons. But only in extreme cases.
The head of the American State Department, Antony Blinken, announced this at a conference of countries participating in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
He emphasized: in the context of the existence of nuclear weapons, the “fundamental role” of this type of US weapon is to deter nuclear attacks on the United States and the country’s allies.
The United States would consider the use of nuclear weapons only in extreme circumstances, to protect the vital interests of the United States, allies and partners, – diplomat TASS agency.
He added: Washington will not threaten to use nuclear weapons against countries that do not have them among those who have acceded to the NPT.
In this regard, the United States continues to adhere to its own policy of non-application of the above threats to countries from the NPT that fulfill their obligations on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, Blinken concluded.
