Bloomberg reports that the US has been angered by the “cordial relationship” between Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to the agency, Washington has increased pressure on Turkey due to the expansion of its economic ties with Russia.
What the US is unhappy with
The article said the United States was angered by Putin and Erdogan’s “cordial relationship” and that American officials held talks with Turkish counterparts about enforcing economic sanctions against Russia so that Ankara would take a tougher stance.
According to the agency, Western countries want to create a united international front against Russia, but this is being prevented by the Turkish President, who “publicly defends” Putin.
It is noted that Erdogan, on the eve of the presidential elections, hopes for Russia’s help in maintaining Turkey’s troubled economy.
