Bolsonaro senator repeats former president, launches candidate son and generates jealousy in the PL

Senator Jorge Seif (PL-SC) is betting on his eldest son’s entry to consolidate his family’s political career.

Like former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), he nominated his eldest son (PL), a 21-year-old law student, to seek a position as councilor in Itapema (SC).

In 2022, when he was elected senator with the support of Bolsonaro, Seif had 57.78% of the votes in the city. In the municipality, the former president received the most votes in the first round, with 76.32% of support from voters who went to the polls.

Thousand votes to become councilor

Itapema has 76 thousand inhabitants and 13 vacancies for the City Council. To win one of them, Jorginho needs around a thousand votes.

His father’s popularity and Bolsonaro’s endorsement weigh in favor of the newcomer.

The former president was consulted by the senator about his son’s candidacy, and he encouraged the endeavor, using his own children as an example – introduced into politics at a young age. Bolsonaro’s youngest son, , is a candidate in Balneário Camboriú, a neighboring city.

Same name

In addition to his political heritage, Jorginho Seif bears the same name as his father – as does Jair Renan Bolsonaro, who decided. The two also have the support of the state governor, Jorginho Mello (PL-SC).

So much support has caused jealousy among other PL candidates in Santa Catarina. Sources linked to the party reported to CNN that there are complaints because Bolsonaro recorded a video asking for votes for Jorginho – which he did not do for other names in the party running for the same position.

“We are investing in youth,” said Bolsonaro, alongside Jorginho. Even former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro posed with Seif.

Proximity

Despite his jealousy, Bolsonaro’s gesture is not surprising, as he has maintained a close relationship with the Seif family since 2019, when the now senator was invited to be national secretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Seif was constantly seen alongside Bolsonaro in social media lives, and, as a senator, he even accommodated Jair Renan as an advisor in his office.

A trip by the former president to the state of Santa Catarina to support party candidacies is scheduled for next week. Bolsonaro will prioritize campaign activities with “04”, and reinforce support for his former secretary’s son.
