Boris Johnson could lead NATO

55views

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson could become NATO’s next secretary general.

At the very least, there is a possibility that a politician will enter the race for this position next year.

MIA Rossiya Segodnya reported this with reference to The Telegraph newspaper, which in turn refers to members of the Defense Committee of the British Parliament.

According to the publication, against the backdrop of the situation in Ukraine, Johnson has taken a leading position among the figures in the Western anti-Russian political and economic campaign.

Some British politicians also note the fact that it was the ex-head of the country’s government that influenced the decision of Finland and Sweden to join NATO.

Any outstanding Brit would be a great choice. If Boris Johnson is really going to do this, of course I would support him,” said Conservative MP Richard Drax.

As noted in the article by The Telegraph, if Johnson is nominated for the post of Secretary General of the Alliance, he will be supported by Kyiv, in particular, Vladimir Zelensky.

But there is another point of view. The publication quotes the words of those British politicians who oppose Johnson as NATO Secretary General.

They believe that he should not hold this post because of his dubious reputation.

In addition, as supporters of this position say, political motives may interfere with this.

NATO Secretaries General are appointed by unanimous decision. Any country can veto. Do you think President Macron would nominate Boris Johnson as NATO Secretary General? – said one of the parliamentarians.
