On July 7, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson officially announced that he was resigning.

He will continue to serve as head of government until a new leader of the country’s ruling Conservative Party and, accordingly, a new head of the cabinet are elected.

Johnson’s statement

Johnson admitted that he was very sad to leave “the best job in the world,” reports .

He pledged his full support to the future Tory leader and prime minister.

According to Johnson, the process of electing a new leader should begin now, with dates to be determined next week.

I am pleased to announce a new cabinet of ministers, which will serve until the election of a new leader, – said the outgoing prime minister.

He noted that there are no irreplaceable people in British politics, expressing confidence that the “Darwinian system” of selecting candidates for Tory leadership will make it possible to choose a worthy leader capable of successfully solving the problems the country faces.

The politician explained his reluctance to resign by his desire to continue the work begun in 2010 by the Conservative government of David Cameron.

Support for Ukraine

Johnson assured that the British government, even under the new leader, will continue to support the people of Ukraine.

Let us continue to support your fight for freedom for as long as it takes, – he said.

Earlier, the Daily Telegraph reported on a planned telephone conversation between Johnson and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
