The European Union will consider imposing sanctions on members of the Israeli government over an attack by Israeli settlers on the Palestinian village of Jit in the West Bank.

This was announced by the head of the EU diplomatic service, Josep Borrell, on the social network X.

What Borrell said about sanctions against members of the Israeli government

Borrell said the EU condemns the attack on Jit, which was aimed at intimidating Palestinian civilians.

The head of EU diplomacy also said that he reiterated his intention to propose sanctions against those who enforce the actions of aggressive settlers, including against some members of the Israeli government, and called on the country’s authorities to stop settler violence, carried out with complete impunity every day and putting peace efforts are at risk.

Earlier, Borrell said that Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir could be subject to sanctions.

What happened in Jita

The night before, Israeli settlers rioted there: they broke into the village and began setting houses and cars on fire.

Military personnel and border guards stopped the rioters. During the unrest, 23-year-old Palestinian Rashid Seda was killed.

Israeli authorities condemned the attack and promised to investigate.
