Borrell laments: he said that the EU’s reaction to the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza was costly

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell laments.

He said that he was saddened by the different reactions of the European Union to the confrontation between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the Ukrainian conflict.

According to the chief European diplomat, his concerns are due to the serious costs for the EU of the different European reactions.

Doubts about Europe

TASS reported this with reference to an article by Borrell published on the website of the European External Action Service.

Our division cost us dearly not only in the Arab world, but also in many countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia,” the diplomat said.

And then he added: the conflict between Israel and Hamas “has called into question Europe’s ability to be an effective geopolitical player.”

He also reported that Brussels’ different reactions to the events taking place in Ukraine and the Middle East ensure Russia’s success.

Discontent in the EU

In his opinion, the different reactions to the mentioned conflicts only aggravated the situation with dissatisfaction regarding many issues within the EU, namely:

– uneven distribution of vaccines during the coronavirus pandemic;
– overly strict migration policy;
– lack of funding to address climate change;
– the state of international organizations that reflect the reality of 1945, not today.

Concerns

Borrell fears that forces opposing the West may begin to unite more actively.

In this regard, he calls on Europeans to act more decisively in the near future.

To prevent the consolidation of the “rest against the West” alliance, including as a result of the Middle East conflict, the politician explained.

Earlier, the White House asked whether the US would send troops to the Gaza Strip.
