Why Borrell is against Russia’s exclusion from the G20

Answering the question whether it is possible to suspend Russia’s membership in the G20 and then continue to solve current problems in the world, the head of the EU foreign policy service said that it is impossible to insist on Russia’s withdrawal from the G20 and at the same time promote the principle of multilateral cooperation.

Quite contradictory, isn’t it? – Borrell asked a rhetorical question.

The head of European diplomacy said it was necessary to “listen to others” and noted that yesterday’s meeting of G20 foreign ministers in New Delhi went much better than last year’s summit in Bali.

Borrell noted that in Bali, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov “spoke and left,” but this time he “stayed and listened.”

It’s important that we can say what we think and get a response from the other side, – said the head of EU diplomacy, emphasizing that this opportunity must be preserved.
