Brazil flood death toll rises to 78

Fresh information has been received about the consequences of devastating floods in southern Brazil, which killed dozens of people.

According to the latest official data, the number of victims of the disaster that hit the state of Rio Grande do Sul has risen to 78 people.

The number of flood victims has reached 175 people, and the number of those listed as missing is currently at least 111 citizens.

MIA Rossiya Segodnya reported this with reference to a statement by representatives of the national civil defense service.

Prior to this, local authorities reported 73 dead and 103 missing.

According to the civil defense service, floods in the state have affected more than 850,000 people to varying degrees.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva arrived in the affected region.

Earlier, on May 5, it was reported that more than fifty residents of the state of Rio Grande do Sul were affected by floods.
