British court allows Assange to be extradited to the US

33views

The Court of Appeal of England and Wales has supported the appeal of the US Ministry of Justice in the case of extradition to the US of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

The court found the US guarantees for Assange’s safety convincing.

Now the case of Assange’s extradition will be returned to the court of first instance to be sent to the head of the British Interior Ministry Priti Patel for consideration.

The minister will have to decide whether Assange should be extradited.

The court order also stated that Assange must remain in custody.

The fiancee of the founder of WikiLeaks, Stella Morris, intends to challenge this verdict.

Let us recall that in January of this year, the Westminster Magistrates Court refused to extradite Assange due to the risk of him committing suicide in an American prison.

The US Department of Justice appealed this decision, providing guarantees for Assange’s safety, in particular, a guarantee that he will be able to serve his sentence in Australia.
