UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps said he does not share the position of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that it is impossible to create an independent Palestinian state.
The minister made this statement in an interview with the British television channel Sky News.
How Shapps commented on Netanyahu’s position
The head of the British defense department said that in London they were upset by the position of the Israeli Prime Minister, who said that he did not believe in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state principle.
According to the minister, Great Britain and Israel have opposing positions on this issue.
I don’t think we can resolve the conflict without relying on the two-state principle, – Shapps said in an interview.
He added that the UK agrees that Israel has the right to self-defence and must respect international law.
On January 18, the Israeli Prime Minister said that the operation in the Gaza Strip will continue until Israel wins a decisive victory over Hamas. Netanyahu rejected the idea of creating a Palestinian state, indicating that he had conveyed his position to Washington.
