31views

On November 17, a Royal Air Force F-35 fighter jet from the aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth crashed into the Mediterranean Sea.

The aircraft crashed during a scheduled flight from an aircraft carrier; the pilot managed to eject safely.

The UK Ministry of Defense announced this on Twitter.

The Ministry of Defense did not provide any details of the incident, only that the pilot returned safely on board the aircraft carrier and that an investigation into the incident was underway.

It would therefore be inappropriate to comment further at this time, – said in a statement from the press service of the defense department.

The aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth has been on a long voyage at the head of the British squadron since May. The ship is currently returning to the UK and is due to arrive in December.

On board the aircraft carrier there are 8 British F-35s and 10 American ones. British F-35s have taken off from Queen Elizabeth on numerous occasions to fly various missions and participate in exercises.

The cost of one F-35 fighter for the UK budget is estimated at 190 million pounds (about $256 million).
