What Sunak said about sending British troops to Ukraine

The British Prime Minister explained that the statements of the country’s Defense Minister Grant Shapps about sending British instructors to Ukraine concerned the long-term perspective.

The Secretary of Defense meant that it would be, perhaps one day in the future, – said the head of the British government.

He ruled out sending British troops to Ukraine during the conflict.

No British soldiers will be sent to take part in the current conflict, Sunak emphasized.

Earlier, Shapps, in an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, said that Great Britain was considering the possibility of stationing its military in Ukraine to train military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

He noted that this was particularly true in western Ukraine, where the UK could do more. The minister clarified that we are also talking about the deployment of military production in western Ukraine.

The head of the British defense department added that during his visit to Ukraine on September 27, he discussed these plans with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

The minister also said that the UK and other NATO countries need to work to improve interoperability with the Ukrainian army and prepare it for NATO membership.

Currently, Great Britain is training Ukrainian military on its territory.

According to the latest information from the UK Ministry of Defense, since February last year, 26.5 thousand military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have undergone training.

As Shapps previously stated, by the end of this year the UK plans to increase the total number of trained Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel to 30,000.
