Bruno Dantas defends auditing the efficiency of public policies: “seeking that more is done with less”

Monitoring the efficiency of public policies is one of the main duties of the Federal Audit Court (TCU), according to the assessment of the president of the Court, Bruno Dantas.

“Although we are called an audit court, in reality, we do much more than audit accounts. And I believe that one of our main roles is to audit the efficiency of public policies”, said the minister, during his participation in the II International Sphere Forum in Rome, Italy, this Saturday (12).

“Faced with a program that was endorsed by the polls, which is more expansionist — we know that President Lula presented himself as a candidate defending more State participation — what we can do is seek to ensure that more is done with less,” he added.

According to Dantas, although the TCU does not have the role of “formulating public policies”, it is the body’s responsibility to ensure that the resources committed to the various programs funded by the government are used efficiently.

“When we carry out an audit, for example, at Fies and Prouni, and we see areas of overlap, we are there pointing to the Ministry of Education: ‘you need to reduce these overlaps to provide more efficiency’. I don’t want to reduce the Brazilian education budget of 170 billion that was approved for 2024, but we want these 170 billion to be spent efficiently”, he explained.

The minister participated in a panel on the future of Brazil, alongside the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD), and businessmen Rubens Menin and Wesley Batista.
