The minister of , , said he was “radically against” a pension reform and defended measures to increase revenue this Thursday (26).

“When we talk about pension reform, it’s just about taking away rights. I am radically against it”, stated the minister.

According to Lupi, one of the biggest problems with social security today is the large number of exemptions, which he classified as criminal.

“Wanting to take from those who already have little is, to say the least, inhumane. So, what we have to do is improve revenue, reduce exemptions, which are, from my point of view, criminal”, he added.

In August, the National Congress approved the gradual reduction of the payroll, maintaining the full exemption until the end of this year. The measure was criticized by Lupi.

“Recently, Congress approved another gigantic number of exemptions. Of course, I have to respect the role of Congress, we are in a democracy. But we have to clarify to the population that, without a source of income, how am I going to pay these 40 million retirees and social security beneficiaries?”, he asked.

The minister also stated that “everyone wants to receive something from social security, but no one wants to pay”.

The last pension reform took place in 2019. Among the main points was the increase in the minimum contribution time and the definition of minimum ages for citizens to retire (65 years for men and 62 years for women).
