China calls for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and a political solution to the conflict.
This was stated by the head of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Lutong, on December 7 at a press conference following the summit of the PRC and the European Union.
What China is calling for
Wang Lutong said Beijing’s position on the conflict in Ukraine is that an immediate ceasefire and a political solution to the conflict are necessary.
He noted that the European Union sometimes calls on China to engage in dialogue with Russia and its President Vladimir Putin on the withdrawal of troops from Ukraine.
However, President Putin made a decision based on the national interests and security of the Russian Federation, – quotes the head of the department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Therefore, according to the diplomat, Beijing also calls on Europe to engage in dialogue with Russia.
He also said that negotiations between Chinese President Xi Jinping and EU leaders lasted three and a half hours.
The negotiations were frank, deep and constructive, – added a representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
